50 years!

Don't have much to say about LEGO turning 50 except to say say thanks to Ole Kirk Christiansen for creating my favourite toy of all time! Honestly, LEGO allows for such freedom of imagination as well as unlocking a child's creativity. It is a delight to think that adults (as well as children) still get so much pleasure from LEGO and that's not discounting the fact that LEGO can be used as art. I was reading around on this last night and was delighted to discover that I'm not alone when it comes to enjoying piles of LEGO or rooting around for pieces. As Douglas Coupland put it: "when creating [The Super City] I had to build the Cape Cod house with two dormer windows, and my God! My fingers still had that weird Lego tingling feeling. I was still hunting down in the bottom of the box for that one piece. That sound? You remember that sound? Of stirring around in the bottom of a box of Lego? When I’m building things in my mind, I call it ’shapehead.’ When I’ve got shapehead, I can’t sleep, I might as well just keep on building and building…" I really should think about getting back in to it but of course, where to store the completed builds? I suppose I'll just need to wait until I can get a bigger place!

Reads like Bone. Great blend of whimsy and dark. Very cleverly (and this is probably not intentional but is fantastic nonetheless) non-UK/American in it's language and humour adding to the quirkiness of the strip as a whole. I really must send some money to the author, I haven't had as much fun with a comic in a while.
